As a member of the ALAIZ collective since its creation, Dr. MaD has been recognized for his trademark “soul-jazz-hop” sound, which is easily noticeable in his productions for Montreal artists, his solo beat tapes or his remixes. Through the years, Mad earned the local scene’s trust, which allowed him to take part in many nights and festivals, notably with the Kalmunity Live Organic Improv collective, Le Cypher with the Urban Science band, the last two editions of the international dance competition “Jack of All Trades” founded by Monsta Pop and every edition of the FRO festival since its inception in 2013. He also shared the stage many times with local DJs including Shash’U, Kaytranada, High-Klassified, Guilty, Scott C, Lexis and Professor Groove. Along with various local acts, he opened for Mos Def, Oddisee, Raekwon, Slum Village, DJ Nu-Mark and Hugo TSR with local super group Nomadic Massive. Dr. MaD has also played an active role on the “Piu Piu” scene along with the Artbeat Montreal collective, which gave him the chance to perform at many big events such as the famed Under Pressure graffiti festival, Piknic Electronik, as well as the after-parties for Osheaga and IglooFest.
Finally, he is the co-founder of “Voyage Funktastique” along with Walla P, a platform that promotes the 80’s Boogie-Funk era and the actual Future Funk movement through a weekly radio show hosted by Walla P and a monthly night hosted by the duo. Voyage Funktastique has also allowed the two DJs to perform in other venues in Toronto, New York, as well as the mythical “Funkmosphere” night in Los Angeles, founded by the one and only Dam-Funk. Since 2011, Dr. MaD has been heavily involved with the local youth, conducting many beatmaking, recording and show production workshops through the NoBad Sound Studio, which is part of a youth center in the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood in Montreal. His latest album, “The Good, The Bad, The Remix” was released in November 2014 on Parisian independent record label “Laruche Records”. This release brings together many remixes that showcase the Doctor’s soul-funk-jazz signature. The songs “That Girl” and “Amari’s Call” have made this album one of the most recognized local beat tapes in Montreal in 2014.
